Russian Brilliants® Clarifies the Mystery Surrounding Man Made Diamonds

engagement diamond ringHow do man made diamonds and diamond simulants compare with natural diamonds? Hadar Company, creator of hand-cut Russian Brilliants® diamond simulants, wants you to be accurately informed. Knowing the differences between natural diamonds, man made diamonds and diamond simulants will allow you to make an informed choice when it comes to selecting the right type of diamond.

Man made diamonds, sometimes referred to as synthetic diamonds, are in fact diamonds. They are created from the same elements. Natural diamonds take millions of years to form, whereas man made diamonds are created in a matter of a few months. They are grown in a laboratory environment that simulates conditions deep under the earth’s surface. The most common process used to create man made diamonds is the High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) method. Chemical Vapor Disposition (CVD) is another process that produces similar results.

Man made diamonds were first created in 1953 by General Electric. However, during the heating process, these diamonds changed color, turning charcoal gray or black. Because they were not gem quality, these type of diamonds are classified as industrial diamonds. But these diamonds were found to have important applications, used for such things as drill bits, grinding wheels and saw blades. To this day, they still are manufactured for various industries

With CVD processed diamonds, the stones will often give off an orange fluorescence. Many of these diamonds display an uneven color. The original intent in creating man made diamonds was to manufacture “white gem quality” diamonds. To date, no company has been able to accomplish this on a commercial level.

What is a Diamond Simulant?
Diamond simulants do not have identical chemical properties found in natural or man made diamonds. But, just like diamonds, there are differences in diamond simulants. Some simulants simply look better than others. Hand cut, faceted and polished Russian Brilliants® are the front-runner in diamond simulants. Scientists borrowed a page from Mother Nature when creating Russian Brilliants®, which are designed to replicate white gem quality (D-E / colorless) or yellow, pink and blue mined diamonds. All are classified as “gem-quality” diamond simulants. Like man made diamonds, Russian Brilliants® are durable and hard enough to cut glass. Russian Brilliants® also share a similar optical property with diamonds known as single refractivity, which jewelers look for when examining diamonds, man made diamonds and diamond simulants. With state-of-the-art faceting, exceptional replication of each shape is obtained with maximum fire and brilliance. Russian Brilliants® are the choice for many jewelers and jewelry designers. Russian Brilliants® are long-lasting and beautiful, making them the brilliant choice. To view Russian Brilliants’® collection of loose stones and jewelry designs, click here
